When you guys start flying the the old NWA 55xx 757s, do not trust VNAV path if assigned a speed. Those old processors are so overloaded with Pegasus software they they really are overwhelmed. The old saying, "FlCh is your friend below 10" is so true. Sometimes it's your friend above 10 too, or at least VNAV speed.
I agree with Buzz, use the throttles to hold the speed and let the box hold the path or visa versa. For sure, hit decend now about 5 to 7 miles outside a high altitude cross.
