But it amazes me how many FOs I've flown with over the years do nothing but cruise altitude changes. I've even seen them try to do them after TOD and then sit there and scratch their heads trying to figure out why it wouldn't take it.
Heck I try it depending on how close we are to the arrival point which contains the altitude restriction, but if it does not take it I know what. Normally I will FLCH to start with.
All else fails just follow the green arc.
It it really gets bad just revert to math.
