Not to be too sarcastic, but the -9 replacement has been looked at for the last 15 years with "an decision/announcement to be made within 6 months".
That's just because they can't find a replacement worthy of the Mighty Diesel 9!!!
They just can't build good airplanes anymore, and what's sad is how much more technology is at the engineers hands.
