There are PhDs in Science who are in that Flat Earth Society.

Todays kids are not much different than kids of any other time. EVERY generation says that the ones below them are lazy, easily bored, not motivated, disrespectful, etc., etc., etc. Nothing new to see here.

I am a certified teacher, and a History Major, which gives me a more realistic perspective than most. For example, hasn't the internet increased the amount of sexual activity and prostitution today? WRONG! In the Victorian Era, in London, the average adult male had to have sex with a prostitute an average of FIVE times a week to maintain the numbers of prostitutes that existed. There was WAY more illegal sex going on back then, with no internet at all.

Kids today are taught WAY more than when I was in school, and light years more than kids in the 1930s, etc., etc. The levels of math and science that the learn at a specific grade are much higher than in the past, and more and more is being crammed into the same school day as we have always had.

Our school system, basically, is based on the Germanic system from the 1800s. Listening to and respecting authority, both by students and staff, is more important than learning academic information, and WAY more important than creative thinking. That is a weakness of our system.

Can our school system be DRASTICALLY improved? YES!!!
But, neither the Teachers, the Unions, the Administrators, the Parents, nor, especially, the General Taxpayers want the system changed. Students are probably the most open to change. Everyone else says to leave it the same...I hope we don't get a Hitler-type running for president!
