When they fly you for 12 hours into your soft day off, they will just start your next scheduled reserve 12 hours later. I.E. You will be PB (paid back) your 12 hours by just starting your next reserve period at Noon vs Midnight.
Long story short is that they can't fly you into a golden day so that's why you are automatically released at noon from long call preceding a golden day, but not so much for an soft (X) day off.
Clear as mud?

It's still mud to me. I get that you can flown into an X day and not a golden day, but I always thought that was from a point where a reserve pilot was already flying or was scheduled for a trip with enough time left on reserve. Do you mean to say that its your understanding a pilot who is on his last day of reserve before an X day ("soft" day) is still considered available for an assignment after noon that day? e.g. can scheduling call at 1400 and assign a trip that has a 0300 sign in that falls on an X (soft) day?
I'm with Crunch in thinking I'd be pretty much in the clear as of noon--not enough time to give me a trip that starts before my last reserve day ends. Heck, it's not flying into the X day, it's starting in the X day in such an scenario.
