Right now, we have a lot of unused wide body capacity so it seems like we will need to add a lot of new routes before we need new airplanes. Also, we have 757's that are stored in the desert that would be the next most logical fleet addition. I don't want to be the wet blanket on the party, but I am skeptical of any big fleet purchases right now. I think the 787 default settlement will settled with cash, just my guess.
The JAL MD-90's are a sale-leaseback transaction according to Richard's chat. That means JAL will fly them or at least some of them still. We will own them and probably at some time they will come to Delta. Right now we have 12 MD-90's that are not in service yet.
I would like nothing more than a bunch of wide body growth, but senior management was pretty adamant at the investor's conference about paying down debt. They have been pretty consistent about doing what they say to the investors. I hope I am wrong.
What if those 757's get used for something else......
