Isn't that truth! I've had a controller more or less create his own arc/approach at one point....he called it "vectors to final (3 mile final!!

), on account of "conflicting traffic" on the departure/arrival airway. It was all good (VFR), but you definitely see some interesting things happen there from time to time, particularly in non-radar environments.
