Finally, the captain called the OCC duty pilot. The LAX supervisor was at the jetway controls in no time.
Normally, LAX is pretty good. The ramp controller will hop to if you give them a jingle. The DAL ramp guys also control the AA stuff over on terminal 4 so sometimes that becomes an issue but not usually. The only grating issue for me at LAX is the "tow in" gates which have absolutely no operational requirement to be tow ins. Drives me nuts.
