I certainly do not claim to have any inside information.

Clearly rumors are running rampant about the pssoible down fall of the 380 should Emirates cancel their order/options...............

But what does the 777 offer FedEx that the MD-11 doesn't?

It doesn't carry anymore weight than the MD-11, yes it has 1 less engine but again what advantage does this give us? must fly ETOPS routings..

Fedex has already announced the 757...........seems to me the logical airplane is the 767. UPS seems to like it and it has the same type rating, uses the same engines/parts as the 757. Can be a verstile aircraft in the domestic system as well as overflow to INTL routes. Payload is smaller. about the same as A-300-600. Range is better.

The biggest thing is there are many "used" ones on the market. Fred is a pretty shrewd businessman and has been sucessful buying used aircraft at bargain prices. The 777 is a very popular and sought after PAX airplane, thus I doubt we would get them for firesale prices.

As for 747's.........(new or used) This gives us something we don't currently have......increased lift and Range. There are plently used 747's available and Boeing is trying to market their new 747-XF. That wouldn't surpise me. It has increased payload/range. It can fly to any Airport we currently operate out of......SFS included.

I guess will just have to wait and see what the next bid holds.
Nothings a done deal til its painted purlple and published as a Bid!
