I'm on 3rd year pay, my biweekly paycheck is 850. Keep in mind that figure is most likely higher than other 3rd year guys because I don't pay income tax for my state of residence and my withholding for federal taxes is 3 (most single dudes claim 1 or 2, so I don't pay a lot of taxes upfront but don't get anything back in refund either which I prefer it that way) and my health insurance is the cheapest level. Most 4 day lines in IAD are in the 60-70 hr range - no hope of going over guarantee esp since the base has plenty of reserves and the company prefers attempting to save money by covering open time with reserves instead of using them for sick calls, etc. and letting lineholders pick up open time. Notice I say "attempting to save money" because this practice does bite them in the butt when they become shorthanded on reserves and end up having to junior man checkairmen to fly right seat. but whatever, spend a dime to save a penny right?
4.) Commuting on Reserve? is it possible, impossible impractical?
I'm a senior lineholder with 3 days off at a time and I commute and that's stressful as it is... I can't even imagine how it might be for a reserve guy. Possible, but worth it?
