Thank you...
WOW......out of 182 threads on this topic, 2 were filled with worthwhile information regarding working and the hiring process at Colgan. I appreciate the information contained in those 2 postings. I was recently called by "Chuckie" to interview, I am on furlough from another carrier....great, no one cares. I wanted to make an informed decision about possibly interviewing and working at Colgan. As some of you referred, I am the near the 18-25 age range that they are looking for. But not everyone in the age group is willing to work for substandard rules and compensation.
With that being said, I have decided not to entertain the thought of employment at Colgan. After working at my previous airline, which personally I think is substandard but leaps and bounds beyond Colgan, I've decided and concluded that QOL and expectation of advancement is key in making a decision in the airline industry. For those of you who work for airlines you understand, for those who may be instructing or flying Pt 91, you may think its all bulls*^t.......fine. My advice is to wait, find a job that you would enjoy having, move to your base and fly as much as you can. This industry is all about timing and luck. Best thing is to not leave your current Pt 91 or instructing job cause you can't stand it. Because coming to work, working 12-14 hours for 4 hours of pay is disheartening.
I never really post on these forums because I feel like a lot of the people A) don't know what they are talking about and B) feel like they need to make someone else feel like sh*t to make them feel like their job and life are worth something. Almost all of you are discussing the micro problem in the industry...the regional's and pay...blah blah blah. It has very little to do with the young 18 yr old working for little money, or the regional scum taking away the big bad mainline carriers flying (and don't think I don't understand mainline thinking and paying my dues, etc, my father is a very senior captain for Delta which I discuss these issues with daily), it has to do with society and the way we are evolving and developing. Ehhh, you know what...it's not really worth it because most of you will not get it and the one's who do, already understand it. Don't get me wrong, flying is the best job I could ever have, but I can have just as much fun buying my own airplane and flying around like Joe Schmoe. Well thanks for reading my banter.
PS winglets is partially write but it loses affect the 100th time I read it. You don't need to repeatedly state it.
