Actually, Boeing puts out that the 777F carries 229,000# over 4,885NM, whereas the MD-11F carries 202,000# and has a range of 3,760 NM. Not a huge payload increase, but combined with the range advantage it seems to be a player (would have to see the cargo deck layout for space utilization which may have the same problems the 74 has with cans not maximizing volume).
Again any range increase of the 777 is often offset by ETOPS routings.
I don't have any inside info.........just making an educated guess that we won't see 777's..........unless there are some used ones at fire sale prices.
