Personally, I would love to get more involved with union work; however, I feel guys like me may NOT be welcomed because we may offer a different perspective on things. I'm a conservative and therefore my world view is different than the type of guy unions want in their leadership or on their committees. Where does a guy like me go, that supports union MEMBERS across all industries, but has a hard time with the political initiatives national union LEADERS push on their membership (Presidential endorsements, backing for health care reform legislation, card check, etc.)?
I've noticed that I've become a pretty unhappy person since i've started posting on this board. For that reason, I need to step away from this board (maybe permanently). I am truly thankful for all the nice words of encouragement expressed in private messages from my fellow Spirit pilots.
I will leave you with one last thought: Guys, this is OUR career. Its LONG past time to get INVOLVED and ENGAGED in defending the career. I'm sure the union could use some good volunteers. I'm not the person for it. I've spoken out that we need to do certain things and I'm getting hammered for it. It's your turn. Just imagine if half our pilot group volunteered for union work. That kind of ENGAGEMENT would do more good than a simple strike vote or any resolution our leaders could pass. Somebody just might start taking notice. ACTIONS...not words.
