Some of us cut our teeth driving the Van. So sorry that a guy or gal making about two times what a regional FO makes, flying single pilot, and only having a VOR and ADF flew his aircraft near red line and slowed you down.
I currently fly a plane a good bit faster than a Van or an Arrow, but if the pilot is driving the bird hard, and making a couple bucks, then I am willing to slow down.
Heck, when I was driving the Van, I often had to slow inside the marker because I was doing 170 and the guy in front was only holding 130. For the record, I cannot count the number of times I have had to slow the mighty Saab down for an RJ, or 74, or anything else. But I figure, we are all making money and doing our best, so live and let live.
As a guy who flies a 402 into large mostly-jet airports, thank you for this post. Unfortunately there are a
lot of guys who were hired straight from 172s into RJs (yes, and I was once one of them...full disclosure) who feel we're simply in their way. My response? I'm flying an old turbocharged piston as fast as I can to minimums single-pilot. How did you earn your seat?
And yeah, we're slow, we slow people down when we're 20 or so miles from the airport, but I can also do 180 knots to a 4 mile final and still be stable.
