There is no advantage to dragging the operation to a stop. No upside benefit, lots of downside risk.
You're right Bar, you (whomever this happens to) go do the job and figure the rest out later. But if you are in the right, definitely call the union and take action as far as you deem necessary. I've heard of guys getting premium pay as a result of some scheduling shenanigans. It's one of those "fly now, grieve later" situations. If nothing else, it's a "learning experience!"

We all have to enforce the contract or it's not worth the paper it's written on.
