The federal minimum wage for covered, nonexempt employees is $5.85 per hour effective July 24, 2007; $6.55 per hour effective July 24, 2008; and $7.25 per hour effective July 24, 2009. Most Part 61 schools pay instructors as independent contractors (on a 1099 form). There is no set wage for paying an independent contractor.
