Respectfully, you need to think about this from a jr guys shoes. With the merger we will have so much re-alignment of aircraft I have NO idea where I'll end up. How am I suppose to sell my house right now? It's worth less then what I mortgaged at. I'll be upside down, so how do I get another loan? And what do I do after I uproot my family to move to base only to get displaced to yet another base? Do I yank them out again? Seems awful selfish to yank my wife and daughter away from their relatives just so I can drive to work. They'll never be able to make any friends until I have the seniority to stay in one place.
This profession is no where close to other professions, not even the military. I was an AF Brat, but my father at least got housing allowance. We get nothing.
Respectfully, commuting is not always a choice. We all don't have the seniority to bounce around the system as we please.
Very good post. As a junior guy, I'm right there with you! I'm at two bases and counting!
