I flew with a 59 yr. old 320 Capt. this week who plans to retire at 60. I'm not sure why he didn't take the PERP. He's not even going to get the yellow fever shot. I guess it was worth it for him to stick around for an extra six months of pay. This is the exception rather than the rule, but I think some are realizing it's doesn't make sense to stick-around.
I've flown with numerous over 60 captains. Some of them turned 60 before the age change, went up to ANC as a SO, then came back to 320 captain after the age change. One guy was *****ing because they changed the age after he was awarded ANC SO, but before he started training. The company forced him up there until he could bid back. Needless to say, I didn't like him or respect him. It was similar to flying with a scab. Not as bad, but not much better.
