This really isn't rocket science, guys. We have half the airline pilots in this country WILLING to work for regional wages. THAT'S why we have half the pilots in this country WORKING for regional wages. And until that changes, the pressure on mainline wages will never end.
This is not going to happen. EVERY entry level regional job pays around this much. How else are you supposed to get flight experience to move on to a major? I don't think Delta would have hired an 8000 hour CFI! The only option is for people to decide not to become airline pilots. When people start deciding that they're going to give up their dream of a flying career and go into another career, the regionals will start running short on pilots and wages/benefits will increase. Until that time, everything is going to stay status quo. We need airline pilots to mentor those coming out of high school to educate them on what life is really like in this industry right now. I just did this recently when I talked to my cousin's boyfriend who's halfway through his degree and flight training at an aviation college. I told him to go into the military if he has the opportunity and stay away from the regionals. I enjoyed my civilian training and flying, but would have jumped at the chance to fly for the military. It would have provided a much higher quality of life for myself and my family.
