I'm with ya. Don't have an iphone - they're cool, but $$. If I need something from the iphone, I usually just ask my F/O, since 90% have one. I take my laptop on the road since free wireless 99% of our hotels now.
I have a Sprint plan - never had any problems. $115/mo. with 4 phones, 1500 shared minutes, anytime minutes 7PM - 7AM and weekends, unlimited texting, free Sprint to Sprint, no data. Good Boeing discount (not Delta).
We text a lot - the phones they have for that are fine - not cheap flip phones.
