A number of years ago I watched a NWA 747-400 do touch and go's at DSM. It was shortly after the UAL/SFO -400 incident and I believe everyone had to maintain currency in the actual airplane. Could be wrong on the story, but seeing the whale in the pattern was unique.
Had nothing to do with that incident, it probably was a functional check flight.
