Since it's considered domestic by most and you don't need a passport I would imagine there is no need to clear customs. Does anyone know?
You'll pass through customs on your way back out of the USVI only. Puerto Rico doesn't require any customs at any time to go to or from the mainland. I'm not sure why they do it that way, but that's the way they want it.
