Exactly how I feel. At the picketing I was told the MEC will not agree to anything that results in a reduction in force. I just hope they'll keep their word!
BUT! I am very much afraid that they may agree on something that will not result in the reduction of the
existing pilot force. I.e. some clause that will prevent further layoffs for a while. In one email they have already mentioned that the MEC has offered some improvement in efficiency. It did not explain how, and what. Of course they can't go into details. What that means in terms of pilots? I have no clue. All I know is simple math. If the company will be able to staff the planes with less pilots, even as little as by 5%, the existing force is plenty enough to fly the planes including the new ones coming this year.
I really hope, us the furloughed guys, will be somehow protected by an increased efficiency scenario. I have no reason to doubt my MEC so far, and I am not. But I will feel betrayed if a pay raise will be achieved at the cost of us staying another year or two on furlough. When this company needed the damn pilots to fly the planes in 2007 and 2008, we came here and flew them. I am sick of being used as toilet paper. Back in the days before corporations were the norm, small and medium business owners felt responsible for their employees. Right now the norm is to hire someone, lie them all day long, let them go tomorrow. Amazing crap.
