I’m excited to share with you some inside information about pilot hiring. American Eagle — the nation’s second-largest regional airline — has just resumed hiring. Among those first hired? A group of over a dozen ATP graduates and CFIs.
American Eagle continues to recruit ATP graduates thanks to their high-quality multi-engine experience and Regional Jet training. We just posted an open letter on our website from American Eagle’s Vice President of Flight Operations.
In the letter, Captain Jim Winkley talks about Eagle’s need to hire pilots in 2010 and beyond. The letter also addresses what American Eagle will be looking for when interviewing new pilots. He talks about the need for Regional Jet Standards Certification, Certified Flight Instructor experience and true nationwide cross-country multi-engine experience. This type of experience is the core of your flight training curriculum at ATP.
The factors affecting pilot demand at American Eagle are industry-wide, and will lead to more hiring at the other regional airlines. It’s clear that now is the best time to prepare and train to take advantage of the demand to hire new pilots.
