Drive is very nice, done it a few times from Naples/Ft Myers. If you make that drive during the day take 41 instead of I75, real cool drive through the Everglades.
That's what we did going down there, took 41 (Tamiami trail) thru Homestead and all. It was cool to be watching leopard crossing signs all over the place.
