In his mind, he's not lying, he's just exaggerating a little because that's the only way to communicate how important he believes himself to be.
But he's so [edit]wrapped up in himself, he's oblivious to the fact the person listening to this BS doesn't believe it. He probably doesn't have any friends who are close enough to know the truth and be disappointed in him or care enough to check his facts. He has another set of lies he tells to his family to make momma proud. As a pilot, it was easy for him to keep his lies separate. He's probably one of those overly nice guys, too - because that's the only way you can get away with this crap for so long.
"Yeah, Tim's full of crap, but he's a heck of a nice guy."
The issue with this whole story is not his deranged view of himself or his perceived self importance. The "issue" is why ALPA National bought this, why a committee of staff members/volunteers didn't vet him and finally why it wasn't reviewed and verified by Senior staff before ALPA paraded him around as a "role model" for the ALPA Code of Ethics...as if the national organization actually had some.
Now that Herndon has made Tim the national poster child for "who ALPA is", the task is damage repair as anyone who has checked out his fabrications and lies knows, he is a phony. Wonder how he ever got hired at Eagle ??
Just my two cents...devalued to $ .008764 on yesterday's market close.
