We're pilots. It's not our job to fix all of the problems that management has created for itself. Ultimately what you are doing is masking the problems, and increasing the time before they are fixed.
And whatever you do, don't get into a ****ing contest with the gate agent. ... You've told them that you are there and that you are waiting for your seat. After that, it's between the gate agent and the crew desk. Don't give them a reason to blame you for any part of their shortcomings.

Yep. Seen more pilots get themselves in trouble because of their frustration with OP screw ups. It is hard for pilots, with their natural acceptance of responsibility, to let others run the train off the track.
