It seems like this is an F.Y. to commuters. I can see no other reason that the first day should be SC, every time. Inspite of the amount of days on.
If I had my druthers, SC would be like golden X days, we would get to choose.

I would also like to be able to bid for short call but don't see how its possible , we bid a month out and there are too many variables:
Weather events may require more short-calls.
The number of reserves available is constantly changing due to MIL LV, sick, PD's, APD's, moving X days etc.
Unforeseen events such as volcanos etc are well..... unforeseen.
It seems to me if we bid for short call it would require a lot more short calls to cover the above issues. I think the best solution would be to make the short call assignments contractual - for example, No short call on your first day of reserve, unless no other pilots are available etc.
Possibly we could enter short call preferences, for example if you are a commuter you could request "consecutive SC" if you live in domicile , maybe you could request non consecutive SC.
