Since the reserve system is designed around pilots flying a target of 60 hours on reserve on average, if you raise the cap and also raise the target, you will cost jobs. If you raise the cap and leave the target the same, the cost will be higher. Again, that is a decision the MEC will have to make. Getting paid more, makes the hassles of reserve go down smoother.

Alright, lets say you can't start over for whatever reason. Could we raise the cap to 75, keep the target at 60 and give commuters the option to give up credit inexchange for a more favorable commute when they want it?

Say, you can drop the first turn but you lose the pay or you lose the pay necessary to find a replacement? Or you have 6 days on reserve and instead of requesting PM SC on day 1 you request that no trip start prior to 1200 (or end by 1400 on the last day) and in exchange you give up 1 hour of credit for the whole month per request.

But make it their choice and therein mitigate somewhat the costs for getting the company to sign off on it.

The randomness of the system can be brought under control.
Knowledge = Fairness. When we understand how they get there (or will get there) then we know thats just a part of the deal. Like RAW scores. Like the big screens with all of the non-revs listed for a flight, if you don't get on at least now you know it wasn't just because the gate agent was screwing you over.
