I have to agree that at least you have positive experiences with him and that is much better than knowing someone got the job who is know as a bad choice. Maybe someone else can shed some light on this individual. Hopefully it will be a very positive experience.
I say given anyone who is new in a position (ALPA or Company) a chance to upset you first, then make a decision
As you are aware leading means making the tough and sometimes unpopular decision!
