I was hired at UPS in 95, United called 2 weeks later, one word of advice that helped me back then and applies even more today is this:
Look at the majors today (1995) the trend then was all the majors were trying to develope Southwest clones (CAL Lite, Metro-Jet, Song etc etc) which means work more less pay...Now look at cargo, FDX UPS the internnet is boomong getting bigger and bigger, everyone is buying online, Yet online purchases are still a very small percentage of overall sales, so there is gobs of room for growth. Add to this fact that the % of people who even own a computer, much less buy online is still quite small worldwide. Just imagine the growth potential!!!! and all this buying has a common denominator, it has to be delivered to your home!!!! Its a no brainer, it was for me in 95 and it still is today.
PS, I still would have gone with United if they called first, due to the crew bases as compared to UPS, but that was then today I'd be happy to commute.
