In the past/beginning, when we were growing and getting 16 new A320 per year we were hiring approx 250 per year (15.6 pilots per aircraft). In approx 2004 we were told that we needed to be manned at approx 14.7 pilots per aircraft.

Assuming just 14 pilots per aircraft, and if we gain 7 aircraft that means 98 new hires. However, with our Flight Scheduilng Manual (imposed by management, not voted on), and based on the the fact that management is trying to gain more "effecentcies" by changing our work rules to better favor the company during IROPs and increase the productivity of reserves (decrease total numbers and increase hours flown). Also, our current manning is approximately 13 pilots per aircraft, but our utilization is way down from the 13-14hrs per day that we use to fly in 2001-2005.

Thus I would expect that the number actually hired will be much less than the 98 above. Based on what I see happening to our schedules, QOL and reserves coverage/utilization I would guess that we are only going to hire 40-50 total. Just remember, like any new hire you will be on reserves here for a very very long time, and it will most likely be on the E190 ($42,300 per year for 1st, $55,500 for 2nd year at 75hrs min reserves guarentee) for at least the next 5+ years as an FO.

Good luck

Just my opinion......
