The prediction that the legacies will be reduced into two big companies has been kicked around in the business media since 9-11. It seems to me that the cards are falling into place for this to occur. Now that USAir is the first to choose an alliance the next shoe to drop might be the announcement of a UAL and NWA merger.
The results will be thousands of pilots hitting the streets and a broadening LCC market.
