Feeling excluded from the "good ol boys" is a self imposed, usually from someone that was denied. This "tag" is self created and whether someone agrees or not, it is a reality that exists in ALL aspects especially in the corporate world of flying. I find it pretty hard pressed for many to have an opportunity for an interview at ANY carrier without recommendations. So my guess is that if you are qualified, then a " SMART HARD WORKING PERSON" would know enough to market themselves year round solidifying their character along with their qualifications, and not wait for the opportunity when it arises. For someone to expect their resume on paper in this competitive industry to land an interview is in denial.
Like I mentioned earlier, It's the "GOOD OLD BOY NETWORK" . One does not deny the importance of a recommendation, and one can reasonably argue that it makes the HR dept. job easier (not having to read so many resumes) I remain disgusted with it to say the least. But all who has gotten a leg up because they know someone best of luck...
