Same way AMR owns American and AMR Eagle. It is a typical corporate structure. Just Like Republic Holdings owns all of the carriers. There is nothing special about this.

I suspect that ASA may "acquire" Mesaba and Compass or at least be awarded some assets in the future, with Pinnacle getting some of the OH stuff.

That is just a guess.
