I will just add to RockyBoys comments and say, take a look at the "reserves required" vs "reserves available" numbers is dbms. If there are more available than required you will more than likely get the PD although it is not a sure thing that the numbers will still be good when the PCS run gets to you.
As far as the using the APD goes, it is a once a employment year deal. You can look on your timecard and see if you still have it available. If you do and you are on a regular line, my recommendation would be to only APD one day of the trip you know you don't want to fly. This should drop the whole trip and then you can pick something else up on the other days if you want to. Just remember that you can whiteslip a trip over PD days but you
cannot whiteslip over a APD day.
