The point is that humans(the hardware) need a good operating system(the software). The software is constantly evolving and there are good and very bad versions out there.
For those wondering what the hey we we are talking about, I would recommend a book to get you started:

It is impossible to say what is right, but this book is a very nice overview of what the software can do for you and how the wrong software can kill you.
I tend to take a practical approach with most things and this book does that.
It is always better to have a good idea of the content and theory of your software rather than just accept a random download.
Humans have made great technological advancements, but they remain in a social stone age.
