Nothing wrong with any of the camera's automated functions until you get the feeling of what "you" want to photograph. But as you become more familiar with it's settings, features and capabilities you'll then take the next step. I recommend Michael Reichmann's site:
The Luminous Landscape . On the left side is a tab for tutorials. Almost everything you'll need to make great images is there. The largest hurdle will be within yourself. Your own vision for the most part shows up in your images. I can, with some effort and desire, recreate Ansel Adams, Ed Weston etc, etc. But they're not my vision, nor original.
