Is it possible to go to the location where you did you training and see if they can print out a history of your flights? You could then copy them over to a new log book and try to find you old CFI and convince him to sign it.

Otherwise, yeah you are sorta SOL. If you can regain the proficiency you should be able to do it in the absolute bare minimums but that will still be a couple grand (5-7).
