Nothing else can take 50 people, cruise at 230, and slow to 85 on approach while landing on a 2500 foot runway. Unfortunately for me, Eagle and no one for that matter has turboprops in Chicago. In the race to the bottom, no one seems to think of quality of life in this job, it's all about ego. Hypothetically, If I could live in Chicago and fly a Dash 8 or ATR based in Chicago for the same pay to commute for a 777 or 747 when I had to commute, I would take the prop any day. QOL
I have been told to expect an August class date. Here is my strategy. I will more than likely be the oldest in my class. I am hoping for DFW ATR. The reason? I have been told that my QOL will occur much more quickly as an ATR FO. Since ATR pay is the same until after the first year I have the opportunity to move to a jet after a year and when a vacancy opens. I will more than likely wait until my seniority will allow me to hold a jet line before I make the move. SJS is out of my system. I hope that ATR will be an option for me no matter the domicile. Since I live in the DFW area I am hoping for DFW ATR. If not I will select ATR in SJU or MIA and request a transfer to DFW immediately. If not I think SJU would be some interesting flying. If I choose the jet I'm there until/if I make captain.
I'm sure that when I make my selection on the first day there will be those in my class that will think I'm nuts when I choose ATR. But what they don't know is that there is a method to my madness.
