Given the choice of the md 80 in msp vs. Jfk I would imagine most new hires would take msp for a number of reasons. Now after the 90 days of my a$$ being held back to continue to support a unprepared cpz operation, I will maybe in a special class for cpz holdbacks but our available base and equipement choices will be a what's left.... after people hired after me have had a choice. In theory I may have to commute to jfk for a extended period of time. This is what bothers me. Is compass and delta going to provide me a phantom bid on domicle and equipement or as I understand it now I won't have any control of my destination until offically in class eith all the other holdbacks? This could potentially cost me thousands in commuter expenses.
Where to begin? You are getting a seniority number at the world's largest airline. We have UAL 777 FOs applying to come here because they see the potential of DAL. When I was hired in '01 I knew I would not get CVG. Instead, I got MCO (commute), NYC (commute after furlough), then ATL which I did an unpaid move to. My point is that no airline will or needs to guarantee you anything. You will go where they want you too. It will be a short lived commute experience, if you end up with one, based on our projected growth. That said, if it pains you to much to commute for a few months, the simple answer to your dilemma is don't flow up. Stay at CPZ and enjoy your career there. I've never heard anyone complaining about starting on an MD88 or a DC9 when asked by an interviewer if there are any questions for them. Oh wait, you didn't interview here.
