I heard today that fellow pilots intended to warn me today, because they thought I would be reporting available for work on Monday.(tomorrow). If that information had reached me yesterday I would have called in sick. Too late now...

Had I known that I was about to become a scab I would not have done that flight. I did not gain anything from it. On the contrary.

What happened was that I was called in last minute. They told me that the pilot who was going to do the flight couldn't find his company ID and that I had to hurry. They did not tell me that the next two pilots they called had called in sick. I rushed to the airport and to the gate. There were a couple of pilots there that were taking a picture of me, which struck me as odd. The captain had already picked up the clearance. When taxiing out I saw somebody with a camera and a big tele lens taking picture at the fens at the beginning of the runway. In my ignorance I thought he was an airplane spotter. The captain then told me that he probably was a Spirit Air striker. By that time I felt that something was wrong. I had no idea that I had crossed into scab territory. Whether you believe me or not, that is of course up to you. All I can tell you is that I had nothing to gain and a hell of a lot to loose from operating the flight."

Heh! I guess the fact that Spirit was on strike was totally unknown to him? It was all over the south Florida television news, the Sun-Sentinel newspaper, the Miami Herald, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS and Faux news.

1. You cannot tell me that this person DID NOT KNOW that he was flying struck work.

2. He says that there were photographers at the gate, but he disregards them. How many times have you been photographed walking onto your airplane, and if it occured, wouldn't you stop and ASK why they were doing it?

3. "I had no idea that I had crossed into scab territory" Really? In my viewpoint, if that is TRUE, then this person's medical certification needs to be reviewed, because either his eyesight/hearing is bad, or his mental ability to judge a situation and make a viable evaluation of the facts is completely wrong.

That, or he's simply another stupid SCAB~
Maybe this guy is telling the truth. After all he was called out to work as a Falcon pilot - how does the fact that Spirit is striking affect that?

Then again looking at the big picture his situational awareness appears to have been pretty low. If this was an honest mistake and he does not fly anymore flights should he be branded a Scab for life? The Falcon guys appear to have successfully shut down that operation - kudos to them. I'm sure the union guys will figure it out one way or another and decide the proper way to handle this.
