Atlanta Gate Ops Analogy:
Lets see, its 4am, and I'm finally in a hotel. You land 5 hours late, you wait an hour on the taxiway for gates and all you know is that there really isn't a list as it goes by time waiting and aircraft-gate match, and you're the lucky one for only waiting an hour because their are planes being told that they're #2, #2!, for a gate that has a plane on it but isn't leaving for another 30 minutes and then another plane will use the gate and then them.
Problem is, even though we have a lot of gates not much can be done when a good portion of the gates are occupied by aircraft awaiting crews, who are stuck out on the ramp. Vicious cycle and no 80ktsclamp to put out the fire.
Really, I feel for the guys running the frequency as pilots are testy and they probably don't have the tools they need to do their job right.
I sat at home all day and night awaiting a call for help that never came!! Been that way all month for me, as I was under the impression we were short and I could make some $$ on GS's.
Oh well.....
