First, the program is difficult to plan for because Compass and Mesaba can hold line pilots for 90 days, management and linecheck pilots for up to 9 months. When Delta hires, they hire to have out on the line as soon as possible.
Second, DAL does not interview these folks and thus has no say in the quality of the product. (I'm not slamming the pilots of Compass or Mesaba, no disrespect meant, just stating the reality of the program). Management has acknowledged that some of those pilots do not have a college degree and thus will end up working for DAL. They're not happy about this. However, future pilots hired by Compass and Mesaba will be required to have degrees.
I hear what you are saying. I imagine DAL HR is not too crazy about the flowthru program since they have no control over the candidate. That's why Mesaba pilots are allowed to apply outside the flowthru and get hired after going thru an interview instead of waiting for the flowthru.
For Mesaba they have to have a college degree for them to flowup. It's in the flowthru language so people without a college degree have to wait until they get one to flowup. Mesaba already said they will release approx 36 in 2010 for flowthru. That's 9 per month for 4 months as December is reserved for bypass and people held back.
