I know a couple years ago a friend got on Southern Air with my similar time, but then that was a different job market.

You really need about 1000 hours in a jet sized 737 or larger to be considered at Atlas. The job market does fluctuate as you noted but they are pretty hard-over about the jet thing.
Which is not to say don't apply .....
Another thing, HR pulls resumes off the top of the stack for interviews, if your stuff is 3 months old they assume you've found employment elsewhere.
