It sounds like the philosophy between NWA and Delta is fairly similar. NWA got rid of memory items completely. We had a red-bordered checklist in front of us for critical items. It was assumed that common sense items like putting on the oxygen mask with smoke in the cockpit would be done. This item was on the red bordered checklist anyway though. As far as limitations went, we were not required to recite them verbatim, but we were expected to not break any limitations in the sim. This required knowing the limitations, but took the stress off of us caused by flat out memorizing them. We showed up to the first day of systems class cold. No prior studying required. It was kind of nice. I'm going to miss that when I'm studying full-time for two weeks prior to going to class. It's going to be frustrating flying one aircraft while studying for another.
