No it's not, it's not your parents decision. It's your decision and if flying in the military is something you want to do, I would highly recommend it. Don't let others make your decisions for you...
Also, I'll put the plug in for looking at a local AIR National Guard unit. The benefits they offer for schooling are awesome. I enlisted, and graduated college with up through my CFII, with only 5k in debt. Even if you never fly in the military, it's a great way to pay for college. Makes the low pay of all the entry level jobs, easier to manage! Remember I said AIR Guard not ARMY guard....you'll thank me later
