In accordance with Section 1.B.6. of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, FDX communicated to the Association that they intended to contract two (2) MD-11 aircraft from World Airways for wet leasing from September 12 through the December bid period. According to the notification, “demand out of Asia” appears to be materializing over the peak shipping period.

Commensurate with that notification, your Contract Enforcement department has begun investigating the legality of such wet leasing and what legal implications it has within the CBA.

Obviously, we welcome this development in as much as it signifies increasing demand for our services. However, coming on the heels of 4.A.2.b., it leaves a very sour taste. Just a few months ago, FedEx management was proclaiming a potential furlough situation and now we are short of lift? Nonetheless, we are researching this situation thoroughly and will keep you informed of developments.
Look at UPS. Hell they are contracting all the flying out! Just look at all the MD's and 747's through ANC. Lots of them are carrying UPS freight, while they are furloughing Union pilots. Increasing management flying.........

I hope your management types are not taking notes!
