Section 7-B. This item is designed to address hiring at one
carrier while the second carrier has pilots on
furlough, with a provision that the carriers hire
each other’s furloughed pilots. This was borrowed
from lessons learned from previous mergers. The
section includes gains for pilots who agree to
take positions at the bottom of the hiring carrier's
list. They include an agreement to use hourly
pay rates in place from the point when the pilot
was furloughed (at whatever airline he/she came
from), resulting in higher pay. The six-month wait
for insurance is also eliminated (this provision
also applies to our own furloughed pilots). In all
other respects, the pilot is treated as a new hire.
For purposes of the seniority list integration, this
provision has no effect, as a hired furloughed
pilot’s seniority is solely determined by his
seniority position at the originating airline.
