In other words, assume a 4 day GS trip is awarded on day 1:
1. RES
2. X Day
3. X Day
4. RES
Does the X Day get paid back on day 4 and thus result in GS pay for day 4? (not to mention PB days for day 5 & 6?)

Don't know that I can deceipher this contract language so I'll just post it for you to!

Contract section 23 U is the applicable paragraph.
A reserve pilot who has flown a GS rotation(s) will receive:
1) single pay and credit for the portion of such rotation(s) flown on his reserve oncall days that occurred before the pilot’s accumulated credit exceeded the ALV (applied against his reserve guarantee), and
2) single pay, no credit (in addition to any other form of pay and credit for the bid period) for the portion of such rotation(s) that:
a) interrupted his X-day(s), or
b) occurred after his accumulated credit equaled the ALV
